Switchel Recipe Posted on 05 Jul 16:03
I remember my grandmother's book of recipes regularly used on the farm including a recipe for switchel. Her recipe included molasses and brown sugar even though maple syrup was readily available on the farm. Now, hipsters are making switchel commercially. We're not here to judge. Drink it from your tractor, in your garden, or at your desk. Make it with maple syrup, brown sugar, molasses or honey. Here's a recipe with a kick to keep you hydrated on days like today, without artificial colors or flavors:
-4 ounces water
-1 ounce raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar
-2 tablespoons maple syrup
-1/2 teaspoon ginger root
-additional 8 ounces of water
add 4 ounces of water, vinegar, sweetener and ginger to a canning jar. close lid and shake. let sit for a few hours or overnight. when ready to drink, add 8 additional ounces of water or sparkling water with ice.
you can duplicate this recipe x how ever much you want to keep on hand.
