Art Pack. 250 seeds. Amaranthus caudatus
Amaranth, one of the most nutritious of the ancient grains, is also one of the most beautiful. It has been bred to yield giant vertical spires, huge walls of colorful spikes, and, in the case of Coral Fountain, showy, cascading plumes. While many gardeners are familiar with the related variety Love Lies Bleeding, Coral Fountain features draping blooms in a more subtle peach-coral-amber hue, a shade that hints at the fact that this plant is both a garden beauty and an edible grain. As the art suggests, this variety makes a dramatic cut flower. Some staking required to keep the cascading seed heads off the ground.

Direct sow in prepared bed after frost. Sow 1-2" apart, then thin to 12-18" spacing. Or start early then transplant at indicated spacing. Amaranth requires little fertility and water to thrive. However, this variety benefits from a little extra care and light trellising to keep the cascading seed heads off the ground. Makes a beautiful cut flower in summer arrangements.
